For fourteen years I had a best friend black lab
Hogging up the bench in a crew cab
Head hanging on a two lane breeze
Burning up tires just her and me
She went everywhere I went
Till our time was through
I said my goodbye, didn't know what to do

So I went fishing

I drank a beer, in a boat
Really learned how to let a good one go
Watched the sky fade from red to blue
Talked to God there for an hour or two
Found a little healing at the end of a buzzbait hitting

Mary wasn't my first riverside kiss I ever had
But I damn sure wanted her to be my last
Yeah love like I never dreamed
Had me thinking bout a diamond ring
But she had plans, that I didn't fit in
By the time her plane was taking off
I was dropping that motor in
