And fisihing in the Pea river
My Grandpa Shephard's a wonderful man
And he had a lotta fun with his little grandson

We fed hogs gigged frogs and hunted with the dogs we really had a time
Whenever I was down at my Grandpa's house I always felt just fine
Folks down in that country help each other out whenever times are hard
I remember all the neighbors picking in the fields
And all eating dinner in the yard

And he'd take me hunting in the Alabama woods

My Grandpa Shephard was my idol of man
And he brought a lotta joy to his little grand boy

Well now I'm 23 and I still go see ol' Grandpa whenever I can
And he walks me round the place till I'm blue in the face a he's a hell of a man
He still knows how to shoot and he'll kick you with his boot
If he thinks you ain't doing right
Then I see that smile come across his face
