Grey skies, suburban pines

Some chapters that you never knew
I wore a t-shirt in the swimming pool
When the nettles seemed to smell like lemon
And the frogs got in the classroom

I played a lot of golf with dad that winter
Got pretty good at missing sitters
Maybe one day I'll be a big hitter
And cross 300 yards

And I wonder what you did those days
Getting busy singing in the rain

I know you got a job nearby
Stacking shelves to pass the time
Around then I had gone away

I'm 28 in 'Cathedral grove'
Here in Canada the trees can grow
In their quiet life they reach the sky
One's 70 metres high!

And I'd read a book on the evergreens
They'd taken town in the 70's
Planted there for their privacy

Came home that summer and I didn't leave
Made a nest among the trees

My wings got tired of flying

I'd slipped up once on a wedding floor

And now we've joined the swimming pool
