With benevolence in our minds
But the will is weak
And intentions are lost in time
We rationalize
And trace our thoughts to times before
When we echoed advertising
And the quest to consume even more

Call it ignorance or greed
Or just a breach in our compassion

We've got to reconnect ourselves
And make it something more than fashion
Before we burn it all away

We learn to ignore
Diverting eyes from proof
Deciding comfort is more
Consequential than the truth
As our humanity wanes
And the blood runs thick upon our hands
We embrace the weakest path
Deciding not to make our stand
